The forums have been badly hit by spammers recently.

I suggest you up the ante in spam prevention when registering new accounts.

The webmaster, Evan Sass, is aware of the problem.

I haven't been told what measures he's taking other than giving a couple of us old-timers mod privileges so we can help him zap what does get through. I check the forums irregularly at best, but I've just finished banning and deleting the half dozen or so blatant spam posts I saw when I logged in tonight.

I myself got the "you've had too many login attempts and now you must solve a captcha" message the other day. Apparently existing accounts are constantly probed for weak passwords...

A forum overflowing with spam makes for a very bad impression. A forum looks abandoned and disused when spam are allowed to post and/or are left alone for more than a few hours. It drives off visitors and turns away current and future customers.

Since moderation here is intermittent at best (something I have no issue with - I know GR is a small company) I really hope GR will consider investing the effort necessary to significantly upgrade their anti-spam measures.

Since there is so much spam these days, I'm giving up reporting it. You moderators need to trawl all the forums on a daily basis anyway.
