Peril at king's Landing ?

Postby stereofm » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:34 pm

At what time in the books series is it supposed to occur ?

Will it be the Hand's tourney as described in the first book ?

it is important to me as I have an AGOT campaign running using the GOO version, and I'd like to see if I have to delay the next sessions timeline to fit the adventure inside.

Page 2 - Song of Ice and Fire Roleplay Fast Play wrote:The events of George R.R. Martin’s saga, A Song of Ice and Fire, take place on the island continent of Westeros, a realm known as the Seven Kingdoms. The Targaryen dynasty ruled Westeros for centuries, but fifteen years before the series begins, they were overthrown in a bloody conflict remembered as the War of the Usurper. A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying focuses on the period leading up to the first book, A Game of Thrones. The new king, Robert Baratheon, has presided over a decade of uneasy peace but change is in the wind. Few know it yet, but winter is coming.

From what the fast play rules say, it's from before the events of the first book.

What ninasie is saying is that Green Ronin has stated the SIFRP game and its adventures will be set some time prior to the first book.

I guess this approach was chosen by GR to entice both those who would like to play in the default timeline and those who would like to play in a parallel universe (same world, different heroes).

Besides, it avoids them having to spoil one or more books... :)

I have a couple of questions regarding the combat read out for Ser Ander on page 25.

Ser Ander
Animal Handling 3
Athletics 3
Fighting 4 1B Long Blade, 1B Lance

Combat Defence 4 (8 with large shield)/Armour Rating 5 (mail)
HEALTH 6 / MOVE 2 Yards

Longsword 4+1B / 4 Damage
War Lance 4+1B / 6 Damage, bulk 2, mounted, powerful, reach, slow
Heavy Shield 4-1P / 1 Damage, bulk 1, defensive +4

Questions:
[1] Fighting 4 1B Long Blade, 1B Lance
Does this mean he rolls 5 dice and chooses the best 4 when attacking with a Longsword or Lance? Or 4 dice and he chooses the best 3?

[2] Longsword 4+1B / 4 Damage
Meaning damage is Athletics +1 yes (4)? So he rolls 5 dice for damage and chooses the best 4? Or he rolls 4 dice choosing the best 3?

[3] Heavy Shield 4-1P / 1 Damage, bulk 1, defensive +4
I have no idea what this all means.

1) If he's not using a longsword or lance, he only rolls 4 dice. When using a longsword or lance, he rolls 5 dice and drops the lowest one.

2) Damage is a set number that's modified by the degrees of success on the attack test. So if you only achieve one degree of success in this instance, you'd do 4 damage. 2 degrees, 8 damage; 3 degrees, 12 and so on.

3) There's a penalty die associated with the Heavy Shield skill, so you would roll 4 dice and drop the lowest die. Bulk and defensive are weapon qualities, which are defined on pages 11-13 of the QSR.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply.

I wasn't aware you 'used' the shield. I thought it was just extra points added to one's Defensive score
