Encounter Level Calculator in Rulebooks?

Hi, all. Can anyone say if there's anything like a calculator or advice for encounter difficulty in the game books? Some sort of guidance for arranging easy/challenging/tough encounters for adventurers in Westeros might be handy for those new to the ASoIaF system. Or maybe the system doesn't quite work that way?

By that I mean; how could advice regarding opposition composition not be a valuable inclusion?

Why would you need such a system???

Outside of d20 based games, and 3.x/4e, no other fantasy RPG has such a system.

In my experience they are just not needed.

You simply base the difficulty of the PC's opponents in a fight by looking at the PC's skills, and then making the bad guys as hard or easy as you want them to be. Either by altering the number of opponents - or by altering the skills of the NPC's.

It's not that hard, it just takes a few sessions to get the feel of the system - and then you're good to go.

Lots of gamemasters have been doing it this way for years. It's no big deal.
