New Power: Create Spawn

Postby Dogbiter » Wed Jul 30, 2003 11:49 am

Create Spawn
Cost: 6
Action: Half
Range: Touch
Duration: Continuous
Saving Throw: Fort

You can transform other creatures into spawn resembling your physical form. Make a normal melee attack to hit the target. The target then makes a Fort save to resist the power. If the save fails the target is then transformed into spawn.

You can only transform targets into one type of creature (usually resembling yourself). Select 5 powers whose cost is 2 or under. The target gains a rank bonus in the selected powers equal to your rank. The granted power ranks can not exceed your characters power level. All other powers feats and skills are lost when succumbing to Create Spawn power (some powers/skills/feats may be retained depending on GM/Player designs).

The character does not normally control the spawn, minions and normal NPCs are however considered friendly towards the character after the transformation into spawn.

There must be a reasonably common “cure” for the target to become their normal selves again after transforming into spawn (wolfsbane applied to wound, killing the character that spawned the target, etc.)

It is advised that the GM/Player create a “template” of a common character affected by the Create Spawn power for reference.

Extras:
Control Spawn: Your presence demands obedience from your spawn. You can order your created spawn to do as you bid, as a free action, as if you had mind control at your create spawn rank.

Command Horde: You can use your Control Spawn extra on all your created spawn within 5’x rank radius as a free action.

Flaws:
Conditional Transformation: The target does not transform until a condition is met (the target is killed, there is a full moon, the target has been hit 3 times by character on three consecutive nights, etc.).

Bloodsucker: The round that the Create Spawn power is used, you must succeed in damaging the target with a melee (or ranged if you have the ranged extra for Create Spawn) Attack.

Or as an option Replace the second paragraph with the following...

You can only transform targets into one type of creature (usually resembling yourself). The transformed character takes the form of the spawned creature. The new creatures power level can not exeed its own PL+2 or your power level –1, whichever is lower.

What do you guys think?

I like the idea, but I keep getting a nagging feeling its too much like duplicate. Can you convince me it is better to go this rout than just using Duplicate with some unique flaws and extras.

(I don't know any way to not make the last scentince sound like I'm being an ass, but I'm really not trying to. :D )
I'm not mrobviousjosh or DocObvious, just some other guy. Obviously.

Duplicate doesn't destroy an enemy when a duplicate is created, of course. Also duplicates are minions, and spawn may not be.

You might be able to largely construct this power from Transform, although this uses a Fort save. Just take away the range on Transform, give it movement, protection, and an attack as extras- add mental transform if you want loyal slaves.

This is what i thought to do at first and is still probaly the best way. I was making a werewolf dude and of course his bite is infectious. So i thought transform and (after reveiwing the book)... am having a hard time remebering why I chose a new power instead of adding the attk, movement and protection extras to it.

Yea actully this works better i think-

Transform (2pts) + Continous (+1) + Natural Weapon (+1) + Protection (+1) + Running (+1) - Range (touch) (-1) - Limited- One Form only(in this case werewolfs) Thats four total pts as well and a lot simpler. The minimum cost would be what 4 with this (1 for each power?)

Thanks for the suggestion.
