Alexandria Dawson was a quarry worker in West Virginia. Her co-workers had their reservations about a woman working in such a hazardous profession, but they soon overcame them and she was an accepted member of the team. At least till the accident.

One day, while operating a crane, she uncovered and awakened an ancient creature. Its first act on awakening was to kill her with a blast of molten rock.

Except that she didn't stay dead. Instead, minutes later, as the Freedom League battled the creature she'd awakened, she rose form the dead. Her body had been transformed into stone, and she was surrounded by a fiery aura. With her help, the creature was quickly subdued.

Although it took a couple of months, she learned to control her powers and return to normal. Now she's a member of the New England-based Minutemen.

Santo was a priest in one of the poorest of poor neighborhoods in Mexico City. One day while digging a grave for one of his deceased parishioners, his shovel struck an object. When he dug it up, it appeared to be nothing more than a rusty grail. His first impulse was to throw the grail away but instead he set it off to the side of his little apartment in the church basement. Once in awhile he would pick it up and chip off the rust that had built up on it. But his interest in the grail grew, as it seems to peeling the rust off itself over time. Then one morning Santo awoke to find that all the rust caked onto the grail was gone. In its place stood a shiny steel grail adorned with gems with strange inscriptions on it.

Santo’s first impulse was to take the grail to the nearest merchant to trade for food, money and supplies for his church. But when he touched the grail he was infused with holy power. Any other person would of used the power to fight evil, but not Santo. Instead he uses the power to minister to his parishioners.

Deborah Gray was a normal, middle class child. One of three normal, middle class children to two normal, middle class parents.
She stood out as being quite unremarkable.
She was plain looking, nothing special, but not ugly.
She was average strength. She was average height.
Basically, she was average, something rare in this day and age.
However, to make herself more interesting, she began to lie. She made up things about her life, about her friends. She became an outrageous liar.
One day a super-entity of almost god-like proprortions heard her bragging.
She claimed to one of her friends that she was an excellent dancer, and could out-dance anyone in the world. When asked to prove it she blanched.
Taking pity on the girl, the entity granted her three wishes.
In her mind she wished she was the best dancer, and so she was. She found a tune going through her mind, and she began to move. Her moves were grooviliscious, and all were amazed.
Next she wished she was strong, so strong in fact, that she could be called Mitey! And she was. She could bend solid steel, lift up to a thousand kilos, and punch through a train (although why she wanted to do it was anyone's guess).
For her third wish, she wished she could stop lieing. She wanted to put an end to the compulsive half-truths she had to tell. And she found she could speak nothing but the truth...
And so, since that fateful day she became Groovilicious Mitey Gal!

Powers: Super-agility, super-strength, inability to lie.

Potentiality

Christopher Hubbard went through his whole life being told he was an incurable optimist, that he had "rose tinted" glasses on. He couldnt help it if he always saw people not for what they were but for what they could be though. This attitude meant he got taken advantage of a lot, but it also sometimes meant his friends and loved ones would try just a little harder.

As he grew older and his constant optimism was assaulted by the vagaries of life, Christopher clung steadfast to his views about people and their worth. However a conflict rose within him, frustration that no one else could see what he could see. Eventually this frustration pushed to the fore latent powers Christopher had all along, that he had used subconciously even as a child. Christopher could make people what they could be... at least for a short time.

Given his rosy outlook Christopher was obviously going to use this power for good, and even took the codename Potentiality. He hides in the background though, just another plain looking citizen watching heroes and villains having titanic struggles in awe. For some reason the heroes always seem to fight that much better when he watches though.

Edgar W. Barker was a brilliant programmer who pushed the boundaries between man and machine. His dream was to build the ultimate interface: a direct link between the mind and the computer. Edgar became obsessed with his dream, spending more and more time in his lab.

He worked feverishly day and night, until, late one evening, Edgar made a breakthrough. He took the interface, set in a brushed steel circlet designed to reveive and interpret the electrical impulses in the brain, and placed it on his head. Edgar was instantly connected to every machine in the complex; with a thought, he could manipulate everything from the basic security camera to the most complex machinery in the lab.

But Edgar didn't expect the one side-effect: the sudden influx of information and control drove him completely mad in an instant, overloading his mental circuitry and crashing the "system."

When he awoke, Edgar Barker was no more...what remained was SYSTEM CRASH, the master of machinery!

Derelict

No one knows what part of the galaxy it comes from, or what strange race created it. Whoever they were, they died long ago, and the ship has been without a crew for so very long. The ship's computer has searched for thousands of years for a suitable crew, but hasn't found one. Time has driven the ship's sentient computer slowly mad, and now it will take whatever crew it can find.

The Derelict has appeared in Earth space on two seperate occasions. In the late 1970s, it took dozens of people from New York via its robotic servitors, and the city's heroes were helpless to stop them. It returned in the late '90s, its previous "crew" gone, and kidnapped another batch to serve it. This time, the Freedom League were able to drive it away thanks to Captain Thunder's powers and Daedalus' technological acumen. The League claims the ship has been restored to normalcy, but can the fragile computer network deal with the stress of trying to find its way home after all these years? Or will the Derelict appear again in the future, desperate for warm bodies to occupy its cold, empty corridoors?

Hexor always knew he was different. His parents always said it, as did his friends.
He saw things, things that no one else saw. He saw other realities.
What's more, he could move through them.
He travelled through many alternate realities, meeting new people, and bringing them with him back to his own reality. He changed the course his reality was meant to take.
He brought 'mutation' to his reality, in the form of powerful entities from other realities.
As a punishment, the powers that be cursed him with a limitless life force. He would live for eternity. He would be forced to travel through the realities, helping them on their way.
When he reached this reality, a branch from his own reality, he decided to stay for a while, and supervise destiny.
He developed the power to show these realities to others without transporting them there.
He took the name Voyager, and subtly alterred the paths of the people he chose by showing them what they could bring about, how much worse the world could be.
He has spent the past three thousand years trying to atone for what he did those many milennia ago in his own reality.

The Sphinx, as they call him, is said to be a ghostly gunman on the payroll of the Nostra Costa. His handiwork has caused him to be called the Michelangelo of hitmen. While few living can honestly say they have ever seen the sphinx, many have heard the mystique surrounding him. Sphinx, they say, is a master riddler and a man of risk. He never kills anyone without giving them a chance to save themselves by answering a riddle first. If they win he simply dissapears, and will never take a job to ice that person again. Only one man has ever survived the riddles of the Sphinx, and that man was Dr.Metropolis of the Freedom Leauge. The cold logical man of stone was able to give the assasin the true answer to the riddle, causing him to lose for the first time.
Conventional means of destruction are useless against the Sphinx: bullets and knives pass through him harmlessly, no cell can hold him, and he can supposedly dissapear at will. Some say he's a ghost, others say he's just an insane superhuman, and still, others beleive he's actually an Egyptian spirit that is filling the role of Death but allowing fate to work in the form of riddles. The nemesis of the late Scarab (forget his name) beleives that Sphinx shares simmilar origins as he and the Scarab, but has yet to act. After all, in the grand scheme of things what does one nutcase, paranormaly powered or not, matter?

The Crucifier
Bishop David Winslow was a small, unassuming man in his early fourties before the accident.
He was in church one day, giving a sermon when he went to light a candle.
What he didn't know was a lethal toxic gas cloud was passing through the sewers beneath the church at that precise moment.
The resulting explosion killed most of the parishoners, and mutated Bishop winslow.
When he woke up, and saw the cross with Jesus on it on the wall, he became a holy avenger, dedicated to make those responsible for the death of the saviour being in vain.
He developed powerful telekinetic abilities, enabling him to cricify people in mid air, breaking their shoulders in the process.
He became the Crucifier, a ruthless vigilante with a rosary.

Jingo

Jingo is part of the urban crime fighter duo known as Jingo and Jango. While Jango is well known for his of power light and flying, Jingo seems to strike from the shadows at his opponents. To make matters worse for the criminal element, Jingo and Jango dress similar so you never know which you are facing until they reveal their powers.

Jingo and Jango were foster kids on the run when their mutant powers manifested. They were cornered in a dead end alley by a gang of thugs being beaten on when Jango’s power first literally flared to life. While the thugs were blinded, Jingo jumped up and started punching the thugs so fast that the first hadn’t touch the ground by the time Jingo knock out the final one. Jingo looked back and saw his friend blankly starting at his hands glowing in the alley. Jingo picked him up in a fireman carry and ran. And ran and ran until he noticed he was on the other side of town in the countryside. He set down Jango bent down to catch his breath when he noticed his skin had changed to a dark indigo blue.

Jingo and Jango decided to take this chance in their life to do something important and good. To this day they patrol the city looking for those foolish enough to do harm to the law-abiding citizens.

Platinum Paladin
Created by the evil Blackguard, the Platinum Paladin is a clone of the famous Portageese(sp?) super hero, Paladin. The clone looks exactly like Paladin, and has all of his powers. The only difference is that PP's eyes glow a faint platinum color when he is within 1 mile of the original. Under Blackguard's orders, he "fight crime" but goes out of his way to ensure that innocents are harmed in the proccess, giving his namesake a bad rep indeed. Fortunatly, he was caught and stopped by the original Paladin, and Paladin's name was cleared.

But who knows what form Blackguard's next evil plot will take? Why, one of you does! For the next name is.....

Blackguard

Blackguard’s is a story of tragedy turned into revenge.

Shanna Jeanpierre was a pre-grad electronic engineer when she met the hero we know and love, The Paladin. She was in awe of the power he possessed and his ability to defeat villains on a daily bases. Shanna manage to track down the Paladin and while it took several conversations, she eventually convinced him to let her become his sidekick. Together they created a battlesuit based on medieval knights. Never did Paladin reveal his identity to her, but remained a faithful companion when fighting crime.

The one day Kalak took possession of Paladin’s mind. He used Paladin to commit crimes and damage property and causing as much chaos as possible. Shanna try to stop him with her Blackguard armor but since Paladin had working knowledge on how the suit was put together and maintained he defeated in a public display of humility. Kalak had Paladin do this in public and used him to degrade her. Paladin called her a two-bit hero, not worth his time to help put her in the armor to fight crime. Paladin tore the armor to shreds and then as she lied helpless on the ground he revealed her identity to the world.

Paladin eventually regained control and proved to the world that he was under mind control, but the damage was done to Blackguard. Humiliated, Shanna retreated from society and started making her own battlesuit. She vowed to destroy Paladin and his credibility. When she was done, not only did she make a new and improved battlesuit but she also created the Platinum Paladin, clone of the Paladin.

The Hornet was one of the greatest heroes of the golden age. This goldenage gadgeteer had a airjetting glider wings, speciall allvision goggles, and sonic armbands that allowed him to attune to frequencies that insects communicated on, controlling them. At first many thought him as a joke, but his bright personality and desire to do some good won out and he became a member of one of the larger american hero teams at the time. He wasnt all powerfull, and relied on his devices, which paled compared to Doc.Ox's technoweapons, but his intuitive thinking and ingeunity saved the day more than once.
However these days no one remembers the hornet. This old man still wants to make a difference, seeing the struggles of modern day heroes, he wants to help. But no one will let him. He's just an old man. Here, old man, sit in this comfy seat next to the other old man, you can be friends. Nevermind that the other old man used to be The Anti-Disistablismentarian, a fearsome supervillain in his day.
But Hornet just wont let himself be passed over without trying at least. So donning the mask and coustume again, though i doesnt fit as well anymore, he is forgotten but not beaten.

National Organization for Orphan Kid Identification and Extraction

The name N.O.O.K.I.E. was a forced acronym for the odd subsection that had been formed by the government's division of all things superhuman related. It had been found that the meta-human gene was dominant in nearly 65-95% of all superhuman couplings. Fortunately most superhumans don't manifest their powers until puberty. With superhuman families, such as the Atom's, there is a nurturing environment for them that instills in them moral righteousness and power training.

However, for the supervillain portion of the meta population, many illegitimate children may have already been spawned do to a propensity for hookers and booze among the thug set. N.O.O.K.I.E. is in charge of investigating the sexual history of apprehended supervillains to locate their children and secret them away to a specialized government training facility where they are taught to use their powers for the government.

He has mastered his powers to allow him to travel between this dimension and our own, granting him not only dimensional travel, but teleportation since he can re-appear anywhere in this world he wants.

Null as he's named himself is also learning that the void can break things down as a form of disintegration.

He has sworn on his bloodline to only use these powers for good! or to get a date...

From a young age Helsa Morgan knew that God was her true calling. Having been raised in a very religious household, her family was very pleased when she became a music teacher at the local catholic school. Though they were shocked when she decided to give it up in order to join the Convent of the Sacred Heart.

Sister Murielle Claudia took Helsa under her wing, mentoring her through the process. After four years Helsa took her final vows, and became a Sister of the Sacred Heart. This would have completed her story had the police not chased a group of robbers into the convent. Desperate and surrounded , one of the robbers shot Sister Murielle. Helsa cradled the dying Nuns body in her arms trying to stop the bleeding and praying for assistance.

The assistance was given to her, just in a most unexpected way. Helsa’s body started to glow., while the wound on her mentor healed beneath her touch. With a gesture, Helsa threw light beams at the robbers stunning them long enough for the officers to storm in and grab them. Overwhelmed by the “miracle” that had happened the Mother Superior tasked Helsa with becoming a champion of those who would be victimized by evil, to illuminate those dark places that others wait to prey upon the innocents. Thus began the Helsa’s life as San Damiana.

Wally Stables was a bright child. Graduating as valedictorian, he stated that he wanted to help build the future. Graduating with honors, he became a researcher in the field of shape memory plastics and polymers in the hope that such materials could be used to build cheap homes and new wonders. Being put on a special project for a industrial strength plastics, he worked feverishly to create a plastic that was strong, yet conformed to a given shape or task readily. However, late one night at the laboratory, he overheard two shadowy figures who were not supposed to be there. They were going to steal the specialized plastics and sell the formula to a weapons manufacture to mass produce a new faster deadlier tank. Not wanting his researrch to be turned towards war, he tried to gather up his notes and erase his files- but was discovered by the spies. In an effort to kill him, they threw him in the expertimental processing vats. The plastics burned his entire body and stuck to his skin, but did not kill him. He dragged him self from the vat and realized the shape memory process had worked- the plastics folded pliably from within, but were stronger than steel on the outside. His mind raced with thoughts of what he would do to those who had perverted his work as he molded a small arsenal of weapons from the leftover plastic.

Several months later, several members of the weapons manufacture were found dead with a plastic bolo around their neck. One witness said that the bolo had rapped around them and continued to constrict stronger than steel, as if the plastic were reacting to them- in an unbreakable Stranglehold!

Pit Viper

Dr. Jules Caprione of the United States Army Science Center was developing a radical new device that would change the face of modern infantry. Caprione and his colleauges were working on HEATSINK, dermal grafts that would allow soldiers on the battlefield to pick up even faint heat signatures. Approaching humans and most vehicles could be picked up within two hundred yards, on every side! No more would faulty nightvision goggles, and the limited radius of human sight would be what our soldies would depend on. After all, the first part of stealth is knowing where they are before they can get to you.
Caprione enjoyed a civilian life, and unfourtunately died in his civilian life, to such a senseless act as a hatecrime. The killers, college boys from out of state, were never indentified "enough" to satisfy the police, who had been intent on locking them up for good untill they examined the victims body. The charge was dropped on the killers for official reason of "lack of due evidence to charge with first degree murder".
You see, there is injustice in this world because of the most inconsoquential of things. In this case, the man, Dr.Jules Caprone, had been born Julia Caprone. The army science center hired the sucessfull Jules Caprone after meeting him breifly face to face, impressed by his research on alternative ways of seeing for the blind. The army never knew, and never cared, that Caprone had once, and was still physically, a woman. The brilliant young man had been brutally attacked in his prime, just because of that. For that, her murders had gotten of clean.

A few months later, history repeated itself, as, unfourtunately, those who are wicked and go unpunished will invetibably repeat their sins. The hazing and potential gang rape of a innocent girl from a bar was prevented, and more than enough evidence to lock the nine perps up for good. That same month a race hater attempting to bomb a predominantly black baptist church was found knocked unconious, his gun in his limp hand, in enough bomb materials to blow up two city blocks. He went away for life as well.
No one knows who, but we think we know why, as someone using the HEATSINK technology is out in the night, shadowing the wicked and protecting the innocent, casualties in a world where people who are stronger or more filled with hate often get away with doing what they will with those who are innocent bystanders. Be it a man or woman, there is someone out there, protecting those who cant protect themselves, someone who never sleeps, never falters, and most importantly, always gets the drop on the hunters who she/he is hunting.
This person is...Pit Viper.
