M&M, IRC style...Age of the Republic

Postby Strict31 » Mon Mar 31, 2003 4:03 pm

I'm interested in starting a campaign for Mutants & Masterminds on line, specifically on IRC (Internet Relay Chats). This would likely be on the psionics server, which Lord_Anthrax is using for his M&M chatroom, or on EFnet. Anyone interested is welcome. You may respond to this thread or PM me for relevant info. If you're an old hat at IRC and on-line gaming or if you've never tried but are (even remotely) curious, please feel free to ask questions and to join up! For those who are interested in joining the group, you will also be invited to join my Yahoo message group, which will provide you with information ranging from setting data, illustrations of signature characters and scheduling updates.

The setting is still going through finishing touches, but as I am currently involved in another game, we wouldn't be playing for a while; not until we take a break from that game (the GM in that game is one of my players in this game). tentatively, we would be doing a Saturday game at nine pm eastern. However, if schedules coincide and permit, we could play sometime during the week, in a pm slot, after 9pm eastern.

We will be playing in my setting, the New Rome Campaign. The adventures would be centered around the megalopolis of New Rome, which exists on the west coast. The city is twenty miles long and is rumored to have been built in a single day in the late nineteenth century by giant "mechanoids" which have since disappeared.

The heroes of earth are known as "Icons", and have been in public scrutiny since the Silver-Star Squadron aided the allies in WWII. Immediately after that conflict, aliens known as the Sirani made themselves known to the major governments of the world, and warned of the impending alien threat posed by their ancient enemies, the Vishtani. In coordination with the Sirani scientists, governments and private organizations began programs to engineer "beings of power." At least, that's what filtered out into the public over the years. In truth, the Sirani had been using their own mutable DNA to create human-Sirani "Hybrids".

They've been doing this for centuries...

And only in the 20th century have these so-called "Hybrids" become genetically viable; capable of reproducing their own.

Hybrids would be the New Rome equivelent to marvel mutants, but the option certainly exists to play nearly any character conept your heart desires. See, mankind doesn't know nearly half of what it thinks about Icons and their origins. So there are a few "gods" roaming about; there are angels, demons, aliens, robots, sorcerors, immortals, etc.

There are Atlanteans, but not the sort you might normally expect. You'll find out if you respond.

What I'd like to do with this setting is to have significant player-originated content; to make the world almost as much yours as mine; to make it live ('cuz I'd like to play there, myself!). So, if you decide to join and have an idea you think could work, let me know.

Another thing I'd like to do is provide the players the option to either make original characters, or play pre-generated signature characters (the "comic book stars" of my universe, so to speak). The idea is sort of like Marvel's FASERIP RPG, wherein you could make up your own character or play the ones provided. To that end, I've written up some "comic book" history on some of the characters (my intent is to give every sig character such treatment). reference the "Sentinels...STAND" thread on the M&M forum for info.

I'm serious about getting some dedicated folks together to have fun with this, and I'm eager to get people involved. So let's hear from you if you're interested. If I can think of anymore info, I'll post it here.

Thanks in advance

Strict,

When were you thinking that game sessions would be scheduled (Time/Zone)?

Eastern, and I'm thinking sometime on the weekends, pm style. The window I'm looking at is 9pm saturdays since that's a night that people in my current group have free. One of them has a free slot on sundays after 9pm (as do I). The second guy might not. Friday is harder to do.

So, for me and the players already signed up, Saturday is probably the best bet. There might be possibilites at other times in the week, but they'd still all be pm. Hope you can hook up!

That sounds perfect for me (east coast time, weekends late night ect.) There are two problems:
I have never actually played in a campaign with rules, only freeform, and while Im sorta fammilar with MM character generation, D20 alludes me so Id need tons of guidance.
And, on weekday nights I can only get on from 8-10. Cept Friday o' course.

Very restricting, so Ill understand if Im rejected.
