Nanomancy

Postby Nightshyft » Fri Oct 18, 2002 8:11 pm

HAH! Got your attention( just kidding  )...Seriously Steve, here is some powers( or Power Frameworks) that I am going to employ in my game. Just seeking a little advice...

Nanomancy This power will consist of the following powers:

Datalink: I am assuming that this will operate along the lines of Machine Empathy/Telepathy

Create Object: I am hoping that this will allow the creation of microbots and widgets. In fact, my idea was to create devices that mimic other powers( stupid question: Mimic would probably be better? Right?) for a very limited time and uses( based upon DC success).

Animation or Possession: of Machines...character becomes ultimate REmote Contrtol.

Serial Immortality and Enhanced Evolution: this one is a little different...

In our group, we have a guy that gets bored with characters quickly, or decides that the group needs something else. SO....he lets his characters die quite regulary. In a superhero game this would play havoc with any sort of storyline. This is my solution.

Serial Immortality is simply the power to be reborn...that's it. Nothing fancy.

Enhanced Evolution: now here is the REAL power. Every single time the player is reborn, he has to respend ALL of his points in creating a new set of powers and such...YET, because of the Serial Immortality, he keeps his memories and experience. In all truth, this is not so much a power as simply a plot/origin that allows a bored player to change his character but not disrupt the storyline by having to reintroduce his character every single time...any thoughts on this

OH...and by the way, after reading Cosmic Power descrip, is Sorcery like that? A Framework with already designated powers listed? OR can you group together any number of powers( within a point cost) to create a specific type of Sorcery( Like both of the Shadow Powers that have made it to the book plus Obscure, creating Shadow Magic)? Just a wonderin'...

Wow, do I know you? Have you gamed with me before Nightshyft? I'm notorious for my "short attention span". This sounds great to me, the only thing that has ever cured my craving for new characters has been GMing and that has it's own headaches...

Something like what you describe is certainly possible, Nightshyft. In fact, the Reincarnation power has the effects of Serial Immortality and Enhanced Evolution as you describe them.

Thanks Steve...wow, Reincarnation has those abilities COMBINED! That makes my life easier. I saw it on the Powers List, but thought that it might only be the bebirth power. By the way, the create object power is goiong to be used in Nanomancy instead of mimic because I want the mimiced powers to come from minibots created, not the players' body.

Draamal...Hmmm, probably not. While I live in the Michianna area( YES it is spelled right, those from the area know what this means) I am not close enough to have been in any of your groups. Truth be told, any and all groups will have at least one player with a short attention span who gets bored easily. Most of the time, these individuals will either keep the game moving by constantly getting the group to go/do something instead of bogging down, OR, they will cause alot problems with the group because they become destructive to the group( Hmmm, what happens if I start setting fires to everything I see. This while the group is in the local city/town buying supplies!). To be fair, my friend is not that bad. In fact, most of the time his changes DO benefit the party! He simply gets bored with the character after he has done everything that he could do with it. We are currently playing D&D3E with characters at 13th level equivalent, and all of the players have now changed their characters once( I changed around 3rd level). So, with these higher level characters, doing everything comes quite quickly( Yes, I know there is an Epic level book. That's not high, that's Epic). So, Reincarnation will fit him nicely...allowing him the freedom to explore and me the comfort of a constant character...

I'd wait and see which power (Create Object or Mimic, or even both) gives a better feel for the effect you want. How the ability works can come afterward. From the sounds of what you want, you may be looking at a combination of the two powers. This is if you want the ability to be able to create weapons as well as imitate powers.

We'll just have to wait and see.
