With armor i do not know though. The point with warhammers is not really smashing the armor but bypassing it. You strike it and the force travels directly from your hammer through the armor and into the poor fools body. With an axe you might be able to hack plate to pieces (if you take the time and your opponent is nice enough to stand still).
All in all i would do away with destroying armor altogether and go with bypassing, making shattering just another piercing. Maybe make it so it cripples shields faster.
I agree.... in our home made game (a kung fu game based off a mixture of paladium and some other rule sets) we have armor damage / destruction, but its very limited and takes time... armor stops so much dmg (much like AR in this game) and the amount it stops is applied to its HPs, once the HPs are maxed out it degrades stats, and HP are "refilled"
after awhile the armor is either pointless, or destroyed
I think we are going to adapt something like this.....all weapons will dish out damage to the armor HPs on a 5+ hit.....once the HPs are gone, the armor looses AR....shattering will be a multiplier to the dmg
IE, a hand axe could dish out 4 or 5 dmg....with full plate being around 50 HPs....so would take 10 soild hits before the plate is even wounded or showing any type of ill effect....but the warhammer would be dishing out 15-25 dmg per hit....
this way all weapons would, overtime, degrade armor (makes sense, even strong armor will be dented or folded inward on the user after many many blows) and weapons with shattering would have a much greater effect..... but would not make it so armor is gone in 2-4 rounds
Also shattering will have the same effect as piercing (by passing some AR to give the user more dmg)
