Interactive SIFRP Character Sheet

Postby Azai » Fri May 04, 2012 3:42 pm

I was wondering if the person who made this, also lurks around these forums?

I have a few questions, and I'd love to track them down ;).

It might be me, although someone did suggest they were going to update it.

How can I help!?

I have a question of my own about the character sheet - when I improve abilities after creation, it doesn't seem to turn on access to benefits that require that ability. For example, my character started with Warfare 3, and I improved Warfare to 4, but still cannot access the Inspiring benefit (which requires Warfare 4). I tested this on a fresh character sheet and had the same problem. I'm using Office 2007 on Windows 7.

I know almost nothing about Excel, but I found a workaround by un-hiding the Tables worksheet and manually changing the 0 to 1 in the Use column for the Inspiring benefit. It'd be awesome if you could check and see if this glitch is real, or if I'm just doing something wrong. Thanks for the great spreadsheet - it makes life so much easier!

How did you increase Warfare? Did you invest XP in it (cell AM29 on the Char Sheet p1 worksheet) or did you just overwrite the value in cells S27:T29? If you do the latter, that doesn't change the underlying value of "Warfare" that the spreadsheet references.

If you increase warfare by spending XP on it, the Inspiring benefit should appear as it should in the drop down list of New Benefits.

If this isn't actually the case, best thing to do is send my the actual sheet to philipdack at yahoo dot co dot uk and I'll take a look.

I invested XP in the yellow column (seems to be cell AN29 in my copy of the sheet). I sent you a copy of the sheet, hopefully you can fix it or tell me what I'm doing wrong. Once you figure it out, one of us can let everyone else know what went wrong...

No! I think it is fantastic, amazing for all my games.

I have quiet a few questions actually, though I'll only ask one for now.

I wanted to try and add an Armor Penalty section to benefits. Ex. I want to give Armor Mastery a -1 Ap benefit. As in when you take it you lose one point of your armor penalty. So I wanted these to work within the table. I just don't know exactly how to add this without messing up other things.

Improved Armour Mastery is supposed to decrease the armor’s penalty to Combat Defense by 1 - is this what you meant, or did you want to alter the normal Armour Mastery benefit so that it also provides a -1 AP? There is another complication: Improved Armour Mastery only provides an AP bonus to Combat Defense, not to Agility rolls. The character sheet doesn't calculate the Improved Armour Mastery Combat Defense bonus, however I've figured out how to do it. I can get the character sheet to do any of the combinations mentioned above, but it's kind of complicated to explain, so it's probably best if you just e-mail me, and I'll customize the sheet and send it to you directly: c_telfer at hotmail period com.

I'm not the guy who designed the sheet, but I've figured out enough of how it works to make alterations that don't break it.

Unfortunately, no way to adjust armour penalty in the Qualities table - not something I made provision for. The way to do it will be to adjust the Armour Penalty column in the Armour table. Where armour penalty is greater than 1, add something like this to the entry:

=[value] +n(countif(qualities,"name_of_the_quality_that_reduces_armour_penalty"))

Slight problem I've discovered in discussing issues is that I've updated and corrected a number of issues - I'm up to version 5.0, but the version on the Green Ronin site is 3.1.

Please feel free to email me for the more up to date version. It may still have bugs, I'm not currently playing ASIFRP so I can't say it's been thoroughly tested.

In order to make Improved Armour Mastery decrease the Armour Penalty to Combat Defense (as the book states), you can type the following formula into the Combat Defense box, which is cell AE38 on the Char Sheet p1 worksheet (cell AD38 in v5.0 of the file):

=SUM(agility+athletics+awareness+armourpen+cdbonus2,IF(AND(armourpen<0, COUNTIF(qualities, "Improved Armour Mastery")>0),1,0))

Also, phild mentioned one way to make Armour Mastery provide a +1 AP bonus. Here's another way that might require less typing. Put this formula in any unused cell on Char Sheet p1. I used cell AG53, which is hidden, so you have to unhide the AG column first (column AG in v5.0):

=IF(armour="",0,VLOOKUP(armour,armourtable,3,FALSE))

Then put the following formula in the Armour Penalty box, which is cell AE53, or AD53 in v5.0. Note that the cell reference in this formula has to refer to wherever you put the previous formula, and you will have to make sure all three instances of the reference match.

=IF(AND(AG53<0,COUNTIF(qualities,"Armour Mastery")>0),AG53+1,AG53)

If you want this to work with other benefits as well, such as Improved Armour Mastery, the formula can be modified pretty easily to make it work - just ask if you're having trouble. I'm not a programmer and completely new to writing formulas in Excel, so please feel free to make corrections and suggest improvements.

Actually, both of these solutions are a tad more than needed (mine especially so, apologies for lack of mental clarity! I blame long hours at work, a 1 year old, and too much time spent thinking about my new Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay spreadsheet!!)

Best thing to do is simply adjust the formula in the Char Sheet p1 in the Armour Penalty box, basically combining the two formulae Wandering Crow suggested as follows:

=IF(armour="",0,max(0,VLOOKUP(armour,armourtable,3,FALSE)-n(countif(qualities, "Armour Mastery")>0)))

The Max() part of the formula ensures that if the Armour Mastery quality makes the Armour Penalty a negative number it will return zero.

I originally had my two formulas built into one huge beast, but I didn't know how to simplify it so I just broke it apart to post it here. I think the new formula should use MIN() instead of MAX(), otherwise the formula always selects 0 for the AP value instead of the armour's correct value. I've corrected the formula accordingly, and added Improved Armour Mastery as well:

=IF(armour="",0,MIN(0,VLOOKUP(armour,armourtable,3,FALSE)+COUNTIF(qualities,"Armour Mastery")
+COUNTIF(qualities,"Improved Armour Mastery")))

This will provide a cumulative +1 AP bonus for Armour Mastery and Improved Armour Mastery, for a maximum bonus of +2. I tested it, and it seems to work, let me know if I'm wrong. Also, is there a way to shorten it by collapsing the two COUNTIF functions?

Er, no. MIN it selects the lower value: -1 is lower than 0, so for light armours you'll end up with a negative value.

Also, is there a way to shorten it by collapsing the two COUNTIF functions?

Don't believe so. It can be done using Sumif and an array formula, but that wouldn't be any shorter and would definitely be fiddlier.

So, should I just go ahead with these codes for 3.11? Or should I try to wait for 5.0 to put this stuff in?

Sent the email!

Did you also mention that you didn't create it originally? Or you did?

Because another thing I have in mind was to 'covert' this character creator to be used in a standard medieval/medieval fantasy setting other then westeros.

Yeah, I created it in the long summer many moons ago.

It's fairly easy to convert, the skills and qualities can all be edited in the Tables worksheet and weapons & armour on the Weapons worksheet (both hidden from view, but not protected). It may take 5 mins to figure out how to edit, as I didn't include detailed instructions, but it shouldn't be too hard.

p.s. no email received! my address is further up the thread
p.p.s. to get it on the record', in all the stuff before about MIN/MAX functions, I was completely wrong! MIN was the right way to go (my excuse is that I was assuming the penalty was a positive number, not a negative number - but it's a poor excuse given I wrote the &%^$ing sheet!)

5.0 is pretty great! Thanks again for sending it Phild.

I want to edit the heirloom block on the weapons worksheet. I want to make this "level" of quality available without the heirloom trait needed. Do I just needed to remove the formula? Or...?

Just replace the formula in worksheet "Tables", cell AB85 with the number "1".
