In the real world, there were Knightly houses who held only a few manors for another lord, not at all what would be called a "noble house" in game context, that when they were called to battle came in the equivalent of a ASOIF unit of cavalry just by themselves, made up entirely of family members. When you bring all your cousins, brothers, uncles, nephews, and even some in-laws along for the ride, numbers add up fast.

Yup; there are a handful of those in Song of Ice & Fire canon: the Conningtons, the Lorches, the Kettleblacks. I seem to remember either the Cassells or the Pooles (don't remember which off-hand) were as well.

More relevantly, there are knightly Houses in the rule set for Song of Ice & Fire.
