Hello. Just thought I would run it past and know what you think, I have been trying to come up with a good introduction, that can lead to a larger chronicle if the players are interested.
It woud be set in the reign of Baelor the blessed, up in the north at the end of a harsh winter, with a message just being received that winter is coming to a close, and would involve some deserters of the night watch winding up in the players lands, and a more senior night watch member coming in nearly dead (with some other bits such as possibility of a kidnapped son of a visitnig noble lord if the PC's aren't careful)
If the players keep the night watch leader alive and take care of the deserters (most likely coming across how badly they don't want to go past), they will find out from the night watch man how desertions have been increasing like crazy, and will make a plea for the PC's to help petition the king to assist (he will be aiming for a draft of northern men for a few years to shore up numbers) There will be a tournament at King's landing giving PC's a reason to attend, even if they don't want to petition the king.
On the way down, assuming they dont freeze to death, they will come across another house preparing for an invasion, the Lord is mad and the house has no skills in warfare giving a chance for warfare characters to stretch their legs as they help rebel a large wilding raiding force, to show the players that the failoing strength of the wall is an issue.
When they get to king;s landing they will realize the Great Septonry is being built, if they chose to peitition the king, it will be a complex intrigue. Intrigue points will be awarded for doing well at the tourney, and being invted to the kings table as a reward, convincing members of the small council (in particular the high septon) The discussion with the high septon will be important and it will be hinted that he is the most influential member of the small council, and the PC's will also discover that the building of the great septonry is having difficulty, due to a few trade guilds at war for the honour of coin for building it, leading it to go slowly. A warfare character can help resolve this for victory points. Fighting characters can do well at the tourney for points and intrigue characters can intrigue small council members for points (using stealth and theivry as well)
The introductory adventure would end depending on whether that complex intrigue succeeded or not. If the players find it fun they will find that the High Septon and the Nights Watch have their own interests and will have to try and sort...or benefit from the turmoil that will cause.
Hardest part was trying to make sure all types of characters would b useful, I think I may be shoe horning the warfare use in a bit.
