Speculation Campaign Guide Game of Thrones Edition

Postby Azai » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:36 am

I was just wondering what everyone is thinking about the next release? I know they have talked about changing around the main characters stats, to get more in line with the books. (As least that is what I took from it.)

But what else? And what may you be hoping for? Personally I am hoping to see more characters, like Bronn, and other people that seem to show certain statistics towards fighting. Or some other big names like the Sand Sakes, and other people of Dorne

Also I am really hoping to see if they stat more soldier type npcs. I'd love to see the Unsullied, a template for a number of free companies mercenaries, stats for how Dornish soldiers operate and their equipment. I know it wouldn't be that difficult to make our own versions of this, but I'd love to see official ones made.

All the things you mentioned are on my want list.

Update all stats - sounds like Joe is on top of that.

Include stats for some of the most important missing characters - Drogo, Bronn, Syrio, Areo, etc...

And you can never have enough stat blocks. Regional templates would be very nice.

Didn't Joe Carriker already tell us that we won't get much new content in the Campaign Guide GoT edition? Which is very, very, very sad and was the wrong decision to make by Green Ronin.

Without all the new information about Braavos, the Rhoyne, the Ghiscari cities, Old Volantis, Qarth, Astapur, Mereen ... what is a new edition of the campaign guide good for? What purpose does it serve without new Qualities for Free City dwellers, Ghiscari, Dothraki, Qartheen, a Merchant or Merchant Prince archetype, the Unsullied, all the new information about the Red Priests?

It's not really a new edition. It's rather a reprint with some additions and errata.

Is that the official word on it? If so that'd be a shame.

But hey who knows, maybe they are trying to wait until Winds of Winter is released before releasing a bunch of new information. Since we are all George RR Martin fans we are very used to waiting ;).

Until then I'm sure the community can come up with a lot of house rules or unofficial stats to fill our needs.

I'm in no way official but I'm pretty sure about it. It's not so much an edition for old players but rather for new ones to get to know the game (or for ones that one a hard copy of the game after the old one had been sold out etc.).

Exactly right. It's a reprint of the Campaign Guide, because it was out of print, and we elected to go through and make basic changes to what was already there, not add wholly new material. A pretty typical approach to reprints in the RGP publishing industry.

Cool. So the most significant changes that might be made is updated stats to some of the official characters Carriker?

If I could ask, are there plans to release some supplement books? Or new material in regards to all the new information we have from a Dragon with Dragons? Or are you waiting until Martin finishes another book or the series?

Indeed, and correcting one or two other things in it, like the claim that bastards can't become knights, or the quoting of the wrong year for our default "Year Zero."

There are. We'll be releasing a book on the Night's Watch later this year, at the very least. More on what else we're doing as I get the okay. ;)

I know a lot of people have been wanting that, but I would prefer more adventures like Peril at Kings Landing, and Wedding Knight. Anything like that coming around soon?

Will the campaign guide be released as PDF prior to being sent to print (as is done for M&M IIRC) - in order prevent a fiasco like the Core book GoT edition?

Honestly, it's a pretty decent idea. It's certainly the lease amount of money anyone's ever paid a copy editor.

Honestly Essos is really what I'd love to know about.

And then my unrealistic dream npcs for almost every named npc.

This is a really good idea, I was going to ask this myself.
