Unit Experience

Postby Mrjamespj » Fri Apr 27, 2012 2:48 am

I have only just noticed that on page 105 which lists the base costs for units, there is also an experience column. Is this experience that a unit actually begins with when you purchase it?

So for instance an Infantry unit begins with Athletics, Endurance and Fighting at 3's, and may spend their starting xp to upgrade stats? This would seem to make sense, so that a Veteran unit would have much higher stats than a Green unit. I have only just spotted the experience column and with my game beginning on Sunday it kind of took me by surprise.

Thanks all!

Unit attributes start at 2, and the experience may be used (20xp per +1) to increase any of the indicated attributes. Having more unit types may increase the number of attributes that can be raised, but available experience is a function of the Power invested in training.

On a note of experience, is there official rules for units gaining experience in battle? Like how many foes they defeat or is it really just tied to glory which in turn is tied to power if you want to invest in that.

No direct rules as I know.

Just the investment of more Power.

Just making sure I get it right: you add up Power costs of a unit and its experience level?

Trained costs 3 power, Infantry costs 4 power. Trained Infantry costs 3+4=7 power.
Elite Cavalry Personal Guards costs 7+6+5=18.

That was answering the question asked, yes?

It does. Even though now I'm wondering how these stack up, as in the example you've used. :D

Thank you.

Well, generally, I wouldn't consider to attach other units than cavalry and personal guard units together, primarily because it is appropriate for the commander to lead from horseback and not infantry, while you don't get much for the power you spend in it.

Although if you allow for scouts, raiders and such to perform special tasks, it may be a good idea to simply stack that template on another unit, saves you the power cost for training.

Marine attachment might be a good idea to stack together with infantry maybe, allow units to be useful on both sea and land.

About upgrading to different levels... Do you gain the experience granted by that level, or the difference?

For example if you are a green unit, you get 20 experience. If you upgrade that unit to trained they get 60 experience. Now do you get 60 experience, or do you get 40?

Definitely 40. They are now a Trained unit with 60 total XP.
