Status Question

Sorry, I've got another question and this time it concerns Status.

My House has a Status of 4, which means this is also the Status of the Lord of the House played by the Narrator. In the book it states that players should create their character at least one point lower than the House Lord. So that in my game PC's should have starting Statuses as 2's & 3's depending on their choice of character.

The issue is one of my Players wishes to take the role of a Maester. On one of the table's it says that Maesters should start with a Status of 4. This has got me confused.

What should I tell my player to start his character status as?
