The heritage quality Blood of Heroes states that it can be used to raise an ability above seven using experience. The question I've been wrestling with is whether this is meant to imply raising an attribute during or after character generation is complete?

It can be used to start with an Ability at seven, or to "hold the spot" to allow you to increase one to seven through Experience gained in game-play.

So, a young adult could start with a 7?

Or does that example only apply to adults?

I too am curious as to whether this circumvents the age restrictions on highest starting ability value. Seems like it would.

Generally speaking, I consider this trait to basically allow you to purchase the chosen Ability to one rank higher than your Age would normally allow.

So even as an adult, 8 would be the maximum? I ask because in the errata it mentions 10 as a practical maximum.

Hadn't seen that. Would you be so kind as to link me to that, please? The way I run it in my own games is that it allows you to boost up to one higher than normal, no more.

In the SIFRP FAQ and Updates (8/18/09) thread, under Destiny Points, Benefits, and Flaws:

Q) Is there an upper limit to skllls purchased with Blood of Heroes?
A) No, but I wouldn’t let characters have abilities greater than 10.

I don't know who RJS is, but I assumed this was more or less an official response.

RJS is Rob Schwalb, who wrote the system, so he'd definitely know better than I. I'm just the new kid on the block. ;) So, it's probably safe to assume that's the official ruling. I have noted it as such.

Ah okay that's good to know, and a very fine system it is, I must say! I'm really glad you/they are deciding to expand it into the generalized "Chronicle" system.
