True20 Setting Search Winners TBA in Dragon Magazine

Postby Dragonspawn » Tue Nov 15, 2005 10:01 am

Announcement is on the Green Ronin home page.

I wonder if this partnership means there is the possibility that dragon magazine may be printing True20 material in the future?

That would be a match made in heaven.

Now that would be interesting.

As to the announcement: obviously they'll be contacting everyone who sent a submission before this goes out - and if the Dragon issue is actually out in early January, print deadlines mean they ought to be getting in touch very, very soon. *nervous*

Alright, I have a question:

Is Paizo launching an official True20 magazine?
Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

I'm amazed nobody's yet mentioned the fact that the runners-up will appear in yet ANOTHER hardback book - True20 Worlds of Adventure! That's exciting!

Will the runners-up also get to use the license, I wonder?

I'd have thought the dealio would be exactly the same.

Yes. I believe Chris mentioned this in another thread on another site (EN World?).

Could someone post a link to that here? I'd like to hear more, but refuse to navigate the infinite wilds of EN World without a guide...

Well? Is Paizo launching a new magazine, solely dedicated to True20 games?

Because I doubt they want to put True20 support material in Dragon. The damn readership is strong enough to cancel Dragon Annual right after they published that "d20 Special" issue.

And may I remind you how pissed I was when Dungeon readers protested Polyhedron magazine (one of the first to promote non-D&D games from WotC) being married together ... and they won?

Well?

The news announcement that we have is that Dragon will be plugging the launch of True20. That's all.

The idea of them launching a specialist magazine for a brand new unproven game that's trivially compatible with the material they already publish is just pie in the sky. What I would guess they will do is continue to feature new True20 publications, especially if its print success mirrors what it's achieved in PDF.

Heck, I would mind seeing a True20 e-zine (I don't think that the market is large enough to justify a print magazine). I always found the Fudge Factor e-zine to be useful for what it was (a fan-based e-zine for a free game system - the basic Fudge pdf is free).

One alternative could be to use this forum as a starting ground. For example, threads could be formatted as so:

Post #1: Subject = True20 "Fanzine" Issue 1

Body = {some intro verbiage, editorial style - a different person could do this for a given issue, this could have anything to do with True20...followed by a table of contents of the 3 or 4 "articles" in the issue (and as the articles are posted, the thread starter can link the table of contents to the post - to save from having to scroll to each post - and to allow navigation around any non-issue related posts in the thread).

Post #2: this would be the first "article"

Post #3: this would be the second "article"

...and so on...

I don't think that this would violate any "terms of service" for the use of these boards.

Let me know if this is something that you think is worth pursuing and I can start a new thread to discuss is (there are already many good posts on this forum that can be used for this). I could also see the possibility of "stickying" a master index that would give a link to each "issue" along with a synopsis of the contents of said "issue".

Anyway, just a few thoughts that I had while eating Pop-Tarts this morning...
