Damage Save vs. Hit Points and what about those criticals

Just curious if anyone is using the Hit Points option (instead of the standard Damage Save). Which do you prefer and what are the pros and cons to each for all of you?

Is anyone using a critical variation of some kind (some variation that allows a better than +5 hit)?

I'm using the Damage Save because I like the mechanic much more than Hit Points for a heroic, yet dangerous, game.

What don't you like about the current critical rules? Essentially it just turns some near-misses into hits, hits into stunning hits, and stunning hits into knockout blows. Personally, I think it's plenty powerful as is, but maybe you have a specific problem.
