Specific powers question...

Postby Strand0 » Mon Sep 09, 2002 6:29 pm

How about the sucking powers?!?
Drain - to reduce power, skill and characteristics.
Transfer - to take away a power, skill and characteristics and use it yourself.
Mimic - To copy another's power, skill and characteristics without denying it the original user. This is the hardest to balence. ( :o I mean jeez, the character Mimic seen in the X-men, could combine the power of every mutant within 100 yard of so. That is a lot of power. Bad costume though.)
Can MnM handle Drain, Transfer, and Mimic?

Have you been sneaking peeks at the game?

In fact, that's exactly what those powers are called in M&M, and I think it handles them quite well, IMHO.

Overlapping defenses

Postby Strand0 » Fri Sep 27, 2002 10:44 pm

If a character is designed with two or three kinds of armor/shields, will they all work or only the larger effective armor?

For example: Let say... take the Invisible Woman, Make her a Captain America suit of chainmail and she has his shield. Now we fire a machine gun in her direction.
She has her force field, chainmail and the shield.

What happens?

They all work, to a point. Powers generally stack in M&M but there is a limit to how much of a bonus characters can get from their powers equal to their power level. So a PL10 character could wear +4 armor, carry a +2 shield, and and have a +4 force field and they'd all stack. If the character's Force Field was +8, they'd still only have a total protection bonus of +10, since the maximum bonus they can get to protection (or any other quality) from powers is +10 (their power level).

This rule prevents characters from piling on similar powers the gain huge bonuses. The GM has the right to increase the limit or waive it altogether for certain characters and concepts. Otherwise it serves to keep characters of the same power level balanced against each other.

So armor doesn't grant a damage reduction in M&M?

Blending & Invisibility
I would guess this is an example of two power that start with the same mechanic but do to the bell and whistles work in different ways. What do YOU think?

Chamelion vs the Glass Fish.
