I am thinking of starting a nifty Golden Age campaign and was wondering what resources for a superhero campaign set in the Golden Age and pulp eras would be good, especially online resources. Thanks...

These aren't on line, but they are not terribly expensive, and you can find them in some comic / game shops if you look hard enough.

1. "The World at War" Sourcebook for DC heroes, published by Mayfair in 1991. by Ray Winninger. Details almost all the DC Golden Age characters, heroes & villains, both home and abroad. Also has good advice concerning Golden Age archetypes & campaign ideas. You could probably pick this up on ebay for under $10.00

2. "All-Star Companion" edited by Roy Thomas, (an historical and speculative overview of the Justice Society of America) Published in 2000, Retails for about $20.00. One of the most elaborate & in depth treatises you'll ever find about the development of the JSA, things that inspired it, things that it inspired, plot summaries, art & cover reproductions & and so forth. A fabulous book.

Also, in some older comic bins, you can find 1990s reboots of both the JSA and the Invaders.

Cynthia Celeste Miller developed a free on-line game called 4-colors (in connection with spectrum studios, I think) I don't have the link for it, but you could try googling for it. Some nice advice about Golden Age adventures & roleplaying there - but probably not too much that you didn't already know.

I completely agree with this - Cynthia had some GOOD stuff there...

Also check for the 'Glory Days' supplement for Brave New world. Some stuff in there about supers at war. Probably available cheap, since BNW is out of print.

Hey there,

If you can find a used copy at your FLGS or on EBay, get either first or second edition of Golden Age of Champions. A very well written and researched book covering the early days of supers (particularly WWII). It was done for Champions, but the info in there is invaluable for a Golden Age game. I don't remember which company put out the first ed but the second ed was published by HERO.

I used the 'Golden Age of Champions' sourcebook to get me started. This is a great resource for historical info. Plus, I was running Champions at the time..so it was an easy transtion.

I also got the JSA supplement from the DC game. It's really good and contains some great golden age info and history of the JSA.

Most likely its ICE (Iron Crown Enterprises) they were chapions's publishur for a time.

Actually, the original Golden Age of Champions was published by Firebird Limited under a licence from Hero Games back in '85 which, I believe, makes it for 2e.

Those kind words are deserved Deo. It's no small challenge to put together a Golden Age Comics sourcebook, especially for the company that started it all. The JSA book contained everything you needed to play in the Justice Society's heyday, the All-Star Squadron, Freedom Fighters. . .all the way up to the contemporary JSA! It rocked on toast and everyone who put work in on it deserves serious praise.
