Maps

Postby GameMaster » Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:23 am

Hello,

Have there been any previews of the maps that will be in the books? I am interested in seeing what the maps of Westeros will look like.

Thanks.

But will there be an awsome and huge coloured map that one can put on his wall? :yar:

Bear in mind this is just an opinion, but I don't think there will be a map of Westeros in the rulebook, if anything, I expect it will appear in the campaign guide.

Of course, I'm talking out of my ass. :green:

Sure, I agree, but we definitely need such a huge map. As far as I know, there isn't one available today. All Tolkien fans have their fancy Middle-Earth colour maps! I want a Westeros map, dammit! :yar:

I dont mind another map of Westeros, but what I'd like to see is a map of the world of Song of Ice and Fire.

I've got a large one from the GoO game that I've had laminated. I also have one that came from Dragon Magazine.

I think it's safe at this point to reveal that there's a map in the book.

I think it's gorgeous.

It looks like (from the PDF) that they are using the standard large westeros map, which was included in the prior incarnation of the AGoT RPG. It is VERY nice.

It would be so nice if GRRM finally figured out the maps scale...

There is a scale. It's called the Wall. ;) Which we're repeatedly told is about 300 miles long, give or take a few miles. Measure that, and voila, a rough and ready scale, though it could be off +/- 5% depending on which map you're using and how carefully you're measuring and how long the Wall really is.

GRRM himself has referred to using the Wall as a scale in some on-line or other, I believe.

I think GRRM has specifically said he shied away from something as concrete as a scale as he doesn't want to be tied-down and nailed to a post when he writes.

I have actually come first circle on this myself. As a young RPG gamemaster I winged everything in service to the story. As I grew older, the details of a system became more essential, and so I would calculate things like distance, managed terrain, rations, etc to create part of the story. Now, I am back to doing what "feels" right in the service of the story.

Well, he has said (I believe) that Westeros is roughly the size of South America, which gives you a working idea.
