Units and Attached Heroes

When a hero attaches to a unit, where is he positioned? How close to a unit on the battlefield must a hero be in order to attach?

When a hero detaches from a unit, where does he get placed?

Do these answers change if you're using the Facing and Formation optional rules?

I do not know if there is any official answer, but I would say, attached mean "part of the unit" - not in any case in the front, but in the ranks of the men. I think if an hera is detached, he is placed very nearby of the unit 8on the sides or on the rear).
