If you are like me, you may have just recieved a fake virus PM from LadyXAdmin.

Just FYI. Don't click on the link.

I already forwarded the text of the message to SassyRonin.

I just received one from MannInBlackk.

I actually had to re-activate my account for this, as it' been probably 5 years since I visited this forum :)

Cheers all!

Probably not going to do a whole lot of good I'm afraid. The names are usually computer generated by whatever script the spam-bot is running.

I would guess that there is a weakness in your new user authentication routine that the scripts are exploiting. I haven't played with PHPBB in a while, but it looks like you are running a 2.x version of it.

If it becomes too obnoxious here on the boards, you might want to update the boards to 3.0.6 to hopefully close off the problem.

I got one from MannInBlackk myself. Perhaps this is all a ploy of Green Ronin to lure back long dormant posters.

Just got one from Dersterman which I assume is the same thing (see text below, link removed because I haven't the authority to post them yet) either way I'm not clicking that link especially since the topic was "hello".

I didn't click the link. My computer's networked and it's not the host so any viruses on the internet that get through the network to mine (instead of targetting the host computer directly) are pretty smart and, thankfuly, a minority. Plus I can check my computer for viruses without visitting a website.

My pm was from someone called Desterman.

I too got the Desterman PM. I went ahead and ran my local virus scan just in case but didn't click the link because I'm pretty cautious about that stuff.

Hey guys,

I'm out of town until next week. Could you please PM or e-mail Evan and let him know you're seeing a new spammer and point him to this thread so he can follow along while I'm out?

Thanks! SassyRonin will fix it up.

I've had two in as many days, both from the infamous GafarozzMan. It was obviously suss, as it said 'last few days' and I haven't been here in like, a month.
