What's up Next?

Here you can discuss and ask questions about upcoming Green Ronin products and anything else that doesn't fit into one of the categories.

As we firm up the summer release schedule we'll be making some announcements about what's coming up, but before we do that, I'm interested in hearing from you folks.

What would *you* like to see us do?

Anyone care to guess what sorts of things we have on the menu next? I think a couple of them may be real surprises.

Hmmm, what I would like too see is more Freeport! As another poster mentioned somewhere on these message boards, I would love to see a book on the various Pirates (and their ships), Pirate Hunters, seagoing Merchants, etc in the Freeport area.

As for guessing what Green Ronin will do next...well I have no idea. Surprise me!

I vote for more Freeport modules. More pirates, more things like Swagfest and BLack Dog's Caves. How about some seafearing action. Also more Mythos mysteries and intriguing plots.

Aw, doesn't anyone else want to play the guessing game?

The thing is, I have, oh, about ten cool new things to tell you about, but I can't make announcements about them just yet.

If we can just break through this log jam that accumulated at the end of 2001, I will have *so* *much* cool stuff to announce to you all! It's killing me, I tell you!

Read it here first.

It's cheating if I play, I suppose. Based on what I know about our upcoming schedule, I want you to announce it all! But I guess we'll have to wait...

What about hints? Can we drop little hints?

Ooooo...hints would definitely make the guessing game more fun! Honestly, I can't even begin to imagine what kind of surprises Green Ronin has planned for us.

Well, the Lovecraftian element is what got me to buy Death in Freeport in the first place, before I'd seen enough to get hooked on the setting, too. So how about more horrors in that vein? I've been itching to inflict some tentacled horrors on my players, but they're just not high enough level yet to be more than hors d'ouerves.

And with WotC's d20 Cthulhu game coming out soonish, there should be all sorts of source material for an even more Lovecraftian Freeport game. (I was very pleased that the preview in the Dragon d20 Special gave Deep Ones stats fairly close to what I had devised on my own.) A Pramas-Cook collaboration would be, oh, about 1D20/1D100 SAN loss, but worth it. B-D

Hmmm, Mr. Emrick, we might just be able to arrange a little something along those lines. Possibly, perhaps.

Well, here's a little tidbit from Freeport: The City of Adventure for you. The real name of the Wizard's Guild is the Esoteric Order of Starry Wisdom.

A Pramas/Cook collaberation would be fun, but it seems unlikely at this point. When Monte first left WotC, we talked about him doing a project for GR. As he was already busy with several projects at the time, we agreed to talk again when his schedule cleared up. A few months later Monte started his own d20 company (who can blame him?), so a Monte GR book receded into the mists.

All is not lost, however. We do have a release co-written by a different ex-TSR designer named Cook coming up in May...

I'm not sure exactly what I'm asking for, but I'd like to see a product that really takes advantage of the d20 license. Maybe your class books will do this; are they composed entirely of new material, or does the Shaman book, for example, include a few of the best and most appropriate d20 spells culled from the host of new products available?

Obviously with a lot of new stuff out there the quality is going to vary a lot, but it seems that all of the new books are making new rules every single time, and I'm seeing a lot of repeats (lots of similar examples of how to do runic magic, for example). I think there have got to be cool possibilities in combining some of the various elements out there.

Cheers.

Oh, and more Freeport and Cthulhuesque fantasy will go down nicely as well.

Oh man, I wanted to have Dragonfist under GR control over a year ago, but the WotC lawyers have been sitting on it for so long it's clear they're never going to address the issue unless we somehow light a bonfire in front of them.

The good news/bad news is that we have so much other cool stuff on the docket we're a bit busy for bonfire lighting. It's bad news for D20DF but good news that we've got other good stuff in the works!

I've been campaigning for d20 DragonFist ever since Green Ronin was a wee baby. I am going to start the biggest leaflet campaign this side of R'lyeh, who's with me?

Ding! We have a winner!

Indeed, Zeb has been working on a little something for us, and all I can say at the moment is it somehow managed to fit into our unintentional theme of eeeevil.

I'll see if I can get Chris to swing through and drop any more details.

How about something on the Green Ronin Site that would send a prepared email to the appropriate people at WotC? It could be like those email your congressman things. Maybe a bunch of emails from players would convince them.

The evil cat is out of the evil bag--and what's more, it's a *dead* evil cat. Our Next Big Product Announcement is Secret College of Necromancy, a new Arcana Sourcebook for the d20 System by David "Zeb" Cook and Wolfgang Baur.

If you truly love us, you'll pre-order yours today.

How about something along the lines of the Necromancy book, only on Demonology? (Or Fiend-ology).

Okay, it wouldn't be original. But so far, all of the d20 demon summoning rules suck (well, not quite that bad, but close).

The ones in Evil aren't very good. The ones in the Encyclopedia of Demons & Devils are broken rule wise (as written, anyway). The ones in the Mongoose Demonology book are okay, but awfully limited.

The ones in Dragon Lords of Melnibone are the best, but were converted from BRP to d20 extremely poorly, making summoning demons almost impossible in practice.

Plus, there's the obvious tie in your fiend books.

Nah--just evil enough to be fun. To further discuss the intricacies of Necromancy, click over to here, a new thread devoted to the Secret College of Necromancy. (Good point, Nicole!)

You know, I think this would be very cool (and fully cement our reputation for evilness...sigh, there go my dreams of licensing a children's property and making a fuzzy bunnies game for kids!) but I wonder how many of these things the audience will support. d20 ground is being worked over so thoroughly and by so many different companies, it's just hard to know when it's a good idea to keep doing your own thing and when your own thing is just going to be received as "Oh yeah, Book #5 about demonology this year. Pinch me."

It's tough out there.

You can never have too many books on demonology.

Seriously, though, there is a reason you see devils & demons on the covers of heavy metal albums and such. People just find them interesting. More so than say, a book on abjurers.

OTOH, Illusionists would be cool. I never liked how in 2E & 3E they got downgraded...

Well, I would like to know more about Mutants & Masterminds. I mean, when it´s going to be released and if there is any plan on releasing something like a ... free "Lite" version of some kind on the website so people can know what to expect from it until the release date.

Excellent point. I'll start a M&M topic of its own, and see if we can get Steve to swing through with a teaser or two.

Unfortunately for Steve, we've contracted him for multiple books this year, and so demand that he be shackled to his word processor writing most of his waking hours (which doesn't leave a lot of time for posting to the message boards). He's a good sport about it, though.
