Pirate movies

This forum is for the discussion of Green Ronin's various campaign settings, such as Freeport, Thieves' World, Black Company, and the Mythic Vistas titles.

Can anybody recommend pirate-related movies* suitably serious enough (i.e. no singing and dancing) to be inspiration for Freeport?

*Pirate movies - not to be confused with movie piracy.

My Freeport is a bit like Yellowbeard.

Nat & Hayes, and Cutthroat Island are lightweight without stooping to ludicrous, while the three previously mentioned ones are more "dramatic". For a look at privateering (commercialized piracy), try Horatio Hornblower.
My players keep saying I have a taste for blood...I'll answer them as soon as I'm done with my steak tartare...

I was influenced by Against All Flags (Errol Flynn) and The Black Swan (Tyrone Power). IMO no discussion of pirate/swashbuckling films would be complete without at least a passing mention of The Sea Hawk (Errol Flynn).

Or Treasure Island--the original, not the Muppet version, though you can't beat that one for silly pirates. Unfortunately, I haven't seen nearly enough pirate flicks beyond that.
