M&M Superlink
Since the release of the Mutants & Masterminds
RPG, we’ve had a lot of requests from people who want to publish compatible
material. One sticking point is the Open Game License itself. It specifically
prohibits you from claiming compatibility with other Trademarks (like Mutants
& Masterminds) without entering into a separate agreement with the
Trademark holder (Green Ronin, in this case). We are not willing to just give
away the Mutants & Masterminds logo to anyone that asks, as
we have worked hard to make it a mark of quality. Nor, however, do we want to
shut down the creation of compatible material using the Open Game License. M&M
wouldn’t exist without the OGL after all. Our solution to this: M&M
Superlink.
M&M Superlink is a logo that publishers can use
to indicate compatibility with the M&M rules. Using it is pretty
straightforward.
- E-mail superlink@greenronin.com
with a short query. Just a few sentences on what you want to do and when. This
is basically to give us a heads up on your plan and to head off misuses of the
both licenses at the pass. If your proposed product follows the OGL and doesn’t
violate M&M’s Product Identity or protected content, we’ll
give it a green light to proceed.
- Once your product is ready to go to print (or for release,
in the case of PDF-publishers), send us a low-res PDF of the whole job for
approval. We will not be approving content per se (i.e. we’re not going to
check your math on stat blocks, tell you feats are unbalanced, or take issue
with your backstory) but again checking to make sure you have used the licenses
correctly. We will try to review such submissions within a week, schedule
permitting (in other words, if we get something the day before GenCon, don’t be
surprised if you have to wait). Once the item is approved, we’ll send you a
high-res version of the logo and appropriate legal language to put on the
credits page. If not, we’ll tell you what you need to fix and then you’ll have
to resubmit.
M&M Superlink is a free license, in keeping
with the OGL itself. We will keep this section of the website up, so players
new to the idea of open gaming can learn how it works.
