Make Your Vote Count!

Green Ronin is proud to announce that Freeport: The City of Adventure has been nominated for an Inquest Fan Award in the BEST RPG SUPPLEMENT (fantasy) category. It's up against three Dungeons & Dragons books, so we're in good company!

Our always dedicated fans have started a write-in campaign for Mutants & Masterminds as well. Many folks feel that M&M was overlooked in the RPG categories, and who are we to disagree? If you want to cast your vote for Mutants & Masterminds, please use the BEST RPG (d20) category (or be like Mouthymerc and write it in in both categories to be absolutely sure!). Although M&M is an OGL game, that's where Inquest put the Everquest game (also OGL only) so we're going to follow their lead.

The Pen & Paper Fan Awards are also going on now. These awards are entirely write-in, so you have total freedom to vote for your favorites. If you've got love for GR...

Spaceship ZeroSpaceship Zero Reviewed on Game Play News

Angelo Sargentini has posted a review of Spaceship Zero on GamePlayNews.com. In it he writes:

"...Spaceship Zero delivers a complete, easy to understand set of game mechanics and a universe packed with a generous array of hooks, plots, and death ray shooting tentacled things. Enough action to keep hard boiled space jockeys on their toes for the next 13 billion years."

A New Year's Message from the Prez

On Monday Plot & Poison: A Guidebook to Drow, our sixteenth and final book of 2002, started shipping from our warehouse to distributors. At 160 pages it's the biggest Races of Renown book so far, and its Todd Lockwood cover is a stunner. It's a fitting way to end one year and a great portent of what’s to come.

We're immensely proud of what we accomplished this past year. Last January Green Ronin was still basically a part time company, run on nights and weekends. Since then we've seen some great highs: the release of the Freeport hardback and the mammoth Book of the Righteous, the winning of another Origins Award and two more ENnie Awards, cracking the Top Ten in Comics and Games Retailer's Best Selling RPG lines, and publishing Mutants & Masterminds, both our first OGL-only RPG and our first color book. It was indeed a good year and we want to thank all of you for your support.

And it only gets better from here.

You can sum up our 2003 plans as "all this and a whole lot more" but I bet you'd like to hear a little more detail. Here are some highlights:

• Mutants & Masterminds will steamroll on, with six supplements—all in full color. We'll be continuing our fruitful relationships with both designer Steve Kenson and design house Super Unicorn. It's too early for a formal announcement, but I'll also add this tidbit: one of these books is a license.

• Freeport is going back to its roots in 2003. That's right, there will be new Freeport adventures! First up will be Tales of Freeport, by renowned Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay author Graeme Davis and with another gorgeous cover by Wayne Reynolds. Later in the year we'll be releasing a Freeport mega adventure (think Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and you're in the ballpark).

• We're kicking off a new product line called Mythic Vistas with the release of Skull & Bones. This line is where we'll be doing campaign settings, both historical/legendary and fantasy. We'll be announcing the next one in a week or so.

• My long held dream will be realized when Dragon Fist sees print at last this summer. I'm working on the new rules now. It'll either be an OGL game like Mutants & Masterminds or a more traditional d20 supplement. More on that when I figure it out! If you liked Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, you'll love Dragon Fist.

• There will be continued support for all of our d20 lines: Master Class, Races of Renown, Arcana, and the Book of Fiends. Yes, the daemon book will emerge at last, in all its vile glory.

• We have two fabulous surprises for next fall. First, an OGL fantasy RPG that breaks new ground. Second, a sourcebook that every D&D/d20 player will want to own, penned by one of the biggest names in the D&D pantheon.

And that's not all! There are at least another half dozen projects I can't talk about right now. It should give you a good idea of what's going on here at GRHQ though, and suffice it to say that we are very busy. Stick with us in 2003 and I promise you a very exciting year.

Before I end this missive, let me pause to thank some of the people who helped make 2002 a success. First, of course, my GR partners in crime, Nicole, Hal, and Evan. They are the bedrock of the business and great friends to boot. Second, Adam, Jim, and Tai of Osseum Entertainment. They handle our fulfillment and sales and very rarely get the public recognition they deserve. Third, I'd like to thank all the freelance artists, cartographers, authors, editors, and graphic designers who have contributed to our lines. We take quality seriously at Green Ronin and we couldn't do what we do without these talented people. Fourth, our partners in distribution and retail. They are on the front lines, doing the hard work of sales in an increasingly volatile market. Thanks for the support, guys! Fifth, Erik, Sean, Kyle, and Rick of Super Unicorn. They made Mutants & Masterminds shine and will continue to rock the world in 2003. Lastly, I'd like to thank the fans. You folks have been terrific since day one and we appreciate it. Special thanks to those of you who took the time to give us positive feedback on the message boards, at cons, or via e-mail. We value your opinion and we always want to know how we can make our books better.

Now let's all go play some games!
